Interview with Florian Huster from Germany
Categories: participantsFlorian Huster, professional logger from Morgenröthe-Hautenkranz in Saxony, is competitor for Germany’s U24 team at the World Logging Championship 2010. After his promising results at the latest championship he is considered to be one of the favorites in his starting class.
Now it’s not too long before the WLC are starting in Zagreb. What are your chances by your own estimates?
If everything works out as planned, it could mean a win. But then everything has to work out well. You have to concentrate hard and you cannot make any mistake at all. At least I am training for a win, nothing else!
At the moment everything seems to go according to plan for you?
Yes, you could say that. I participated at the Bavarian State Championships among the guests in order to prepare for the WLC. I ended up second place – among the professionals that is, not among the juniors. That’s really quite something since the starting field was well set – even internationally.
You are a professional logger as well. When did you start your sawing career?
It was quite early, at the age of 13 years. My father is a hunter and an uncle of mine is a professional logger as well, so I was in the forest a lot when I was a child. Four years ago I started to participate in competitions, originally a suggestion from a friend of my family. With the early successes I have become more and more ambitious.
German Junior Vice-Champion 2007, Saxonian Champion 2006 and 2008, 3rd place in the B-team at the World Championships in 2009. That’s an amazing record already! How are you preparing for the championships in Zagreb?
At the moment I have training sessions three times a week. Additionally, I play soccer and practice weight-lifting. That is beneficial for my fitness as well. So I am quite busy during the week. And finally, I should have some time left for my girlfriend as well.
You joined the Husqvarna training camp in Austria. Was that helpful for you?
The training camp was really great and I learned a lot. There were many nations present and you can adopt a little here and there from everybody. I was definitely able to improve my own performance. Everything was organized excellently. It could not have been any better.
Your chainsaw of choice is the Husqvarna 372 XPG. Why?
Actually, because it was the very first saw that I owned myself. That’s where it all started. It might sound a bit funny, but during the years I have built up a relation of trust with that special chainsaw. I like it and I can always depend on my saw. I also use the very same one for my daily work in the forest. For me, anything else than Husqvarna will always be out of question.
Then everything is set for WLC, isn’t it?
From my point of view the championships may very well begin now. I am ready! The whole German national team will drive down to Zagreb in our own bus, which is especially good for the team spirit.
And what will happen if you really make the overall win?
Then there will be a huge party and beer all day.
We from Husqvarna Loggers Blog cross our fingers and wish you the best of luck, Florian. If you want to see how Florian and the other Husqvarna participants perform in Zagreb, please make sure you check out this blog the whole weekend (23 – 26 September). We will keep you updated!
The Future of Professional Logging
Categories: junior, participants, U24Every national team in the World Logging Championship consists of three senior participants and one junior participant. The latter is a part of a U24 regulation, which means that no junior participant can be older that 24. The year of birth and not the date of birth determines the age in this case.
The junior participants really are the future of professional logging. WLC is a perfect forum for young loggers to get experience and expert advices in their process of becoming real professionals. Not only do they get educated in how to be precise and effective, they also achieve excellence in logging safety and ergonomics.
Here are some of the future world logging champions, the junior participants using Husqvarna or Jonsered in WLC 2010:
Florian Huster, Germany
Gediminas Stasiunas, Lithuania
Gvido Kepitis, Latvia
Joni Toivio, Finland
Josh Russell, UK
Lasse Kjaer, Denmark
Lazlo Bako, Hungary
Roland Hinteregger, Italy
Shirakawa Hiroki, Japan
Vladimir Dashugin, Russia

Germany is the current world champion of logging! The gold medal at the home ground championship in 2008 was won by a real team effort and the final score of 4 813 is now the current world record. An important part of this team was the experienced Wolfgang Heidemann, who finished second best individually in the limbing discipline. In WLC 2006 he finished third in the total score and he led his team to a silver medal in WLC 2004. After being a part of the German team for over ten years now he has become really experienced, but nevertheless he thinks it is important not to take anything for granted in this years championship. He uses a Husqvarna 576 XP chainsaw. Why? To quote Wolfgang: "Only the best is good enough!".
